CNL considers three areas of focus during the grant process:
Restrictions
Although CNL provides funding for many worthy organizations and programs, there are several restrictions for inclusion in the grant process. CNL does not fund:
- organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- private foundations
- individuals
- religious organizations unless the project benefits the community, such as a soup kitchen that is housed in a church
- political candidates or lobbying organizations
- organizations with a limited constituency, such as fraternal, labor or veteran's groups
- travel by groups or individuals
- national conferences, sports events and other one-time, short-term events
- sponsorships or advertising
- anti-business groups
- team sponsorships or athletic scholarships
Application Procedures
Proposals will be considered if they meet the guidelines outlined and provide the following supporting documents:
- name, address and telephone number of the organization
- contact person and title
- background information including history and purpose of the charity
- copy of the IRS exemption letter verifying 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- latest audited financial report or a financial statement
- current operating budget and sources of income
- list of names and professional affiliations of directors and trustees (where available)
Proposals should include the following information regarding the particular program for which funding is being sought:
- purpose and objectives of the program
- needs being addressed
- plan of action and time frame
- qualifications of program's staff
- total funding required and projected resources
- the amount requested
- how the project's success will be determined/measured
- recognition of the Company's support
Organizations wishing to be considered for a CNL financial grant may access our grant application online. All applications must be submitted via standard mail to the address below. Telephone solicitations will not be considered.
Applications are accepted at any time and reviewed quarterly.
Proposals funded in any one year are not assured of future funding. If renewed funding is desired, the organization should submit additional applications.
